THE BIRTH OF A SAVIOR (EXOD. 1:22–2:10)

Updated: Mar 17

In Exodus 1:22–2:10, Pharaoh’s fear turns the Nile into a river of death, commanding that Hebrew baby boys be thrown into its waters. Yet at the darkest moment, God begins His rescue in a quiet, surprising way: a child is born, hidden, and placed in a small “ark” among the reeds. Through the faith of Moses’ parents, the courage of his sister, and the unexpected compassion of Pharaoh’s own daughter, God preserves the very one who will later confront Egypt and lead His people toward freedom.

This passage reminds us that God’s salvation is not fragile, delayed, or dependent on human strength. He works in real history, overrules evil, and guides every detail of deliverance.

Moses, however, is only a signpost. He points beyond himself to Jesus Christ—the greater Redeemer—who was also born under a tyrant’s threat, preserved by God, and ultimately triumphed over evil not by taking life, but by giving His life on the cross. In Christ, God draws sinners out of judgment into mercy.
