THE BURNING BUSH (EXOD. 3:1-9)

Updated: Mar 17

This Sunday we’ll hear God’s call from Exodus 3:1–9, where the Lord meets Moses at the burning bush. This is God’s first appearance in Exodus and it teaches us who He is and how we should act in His presence.

First, God is holy, set apart and glorious, so we act toward Him with reverence and repentance, not casual familiarity. Second, He is the God of history, the covenant-keeping Lord of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, who never forgets His promises and therefore will unfailingly fulfill His Word. Third, God hears and acts: He sees His people’s affliction, hears their cry, knows their sufferings, and comes down to deliver. That deliverance points us to Jesus Christ, who came down to save us at the cross. As Christ’s people, we are sent to call our neighbors to the gospel of repentance and faith and to move toward those in need with courageous, gospel-shaped grace and obedience.
